Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What does RiskDesk actually do?

RiskDesk helps active traders size positions based on account risk, ADR (Average Daily Range) stop levels, and reward-to-risk ratios. It also includes a trade journal, performance analytics, and CSV import from your broker. RiskDesk is an analytical tool only — it does not place trades or connect to a brokerage account.

Do I need to accept the Risk Disclaimer every time I open the app?

No. The Risk Disclaimer is shown once, on first launch, on every platform (Mac, iPhone, Android). Once accepted, it won't appear again unless you reinstall the app or clear app data.

Is RiskDesk financial advice?

No. RiskDesk does not provide financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. All calculations — including ADR-based stop levels — are derived from historical price data and provided for reference only. You are solely responsible for your own trading decisions. See the full Privacy Policy for details.

Position Sizing & ADR

Why does my Stop Loss move when I change R:R or stop distance?

RiskDesk anchors your stop relative to the ADR midpoint for Long trades (moving toward the Low of Day) and Short trades (moving toward the High of Day). Adjusting the stop distance % or R:R recalculates this anchor point — this is intentional and mirrors how the ADR range visual updates on the chart.

Where does the ADR (Average Daily Range) figure come from?

ADR is calculated from historical daily price ranges for the selected instrument. It's a reference average, not a guarantee — markets can and do exceed their average daily range, especially around news events or volatility spikes.

Backup, Restore & Data

MaciPhoneAndroid
How do I back up my trades, accounts, and journal?

On Mac and iPhone, go to Settings → Backup & Restore and export your data to a JSON file, which you can save anywhere (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, etc.). On Android, go to Settings → Data Backup & Restore and tap Export Backup — this opens the share sheet so you can save it to Google Drive or any storage location.

How do I restore from a backup?

On Mac and iPhone, use Settings → Backup & Restore → Import and select your saved JSON file. On Android, use Settings → Import Backup and pick the file from your device or cloud storage. Importing merges the backup with your existing data — existing records with matching IDs are overwritten.

Is my data synced across devices automatically?

No, not yet. Each platform (Mac, iPhone, Android) stores data locally on that device. Use the export/import backup feature above to manually move data between devices.

Mac App

How do I quit RiskDesk on Mac?

Press ⌘Q while RiskDesk is the active window, or right-click anywhere inside the RiskDesk window and choose Quit RiskDesk.

Can I make the RiskDesk window always stay on top?

Yes. Go to Settings → Window Behaviour and enable floating mode to keep RiskDesk on top of other windows across all desktop spaces.
